Last Listing description (June 2017)

This historic church is located on a 4047 sqm parcel of land in the beautiful village of Carrington. Carrington is located on the magical Port Stephens waterways only 12 minutes from the twin towns of Hawks Nest/Tea Gardens and 20 minutes from Newcastle airport and the regional shopping centre at Raymond Terrace. The church was built by convict labour in 1847 and is constructed of beautiful stone and timber. The opportunities of this church are endless. Only a number of years ago the property was operating as a youth hostel. The property also consists of separate kitchen, dining quarters and two shower cubicles. The church is loaded with history. It was the first church established by the Australian Agriculture Company by Commissioner Phillip Parker King. It was consecrated as The Church of the Holy Trinity in 1851. With the relocation of the headquarters of AAC to Stroud it was closed in favour of St Johns of Stroud. It was restored in 1880 under the patronage of Robert Hoodle White MP and rededicated as the Church of St Andrew in 1888 and is today a private property. The added bonus of this property is the historic church bell which was a relic of the convict days at Carrington. The bell was made in England in 1829 and brought out by the company and used for the purpose of sounding an alarm when a convict escaped. Don't miss the unique opportunity to own this wonderful property.
