"I have over the years seen such an amazing variety of wildlife in the valley including a resident emu who at the moment has three small 30cm high chicks. The 'dad' / male emu sits on the eggs until they hatch, looses half his body weight in the process, and then brings up the young ones by himself. The female who I've dubbed Mildred is long gone calling for another male to mate with!"

Most people who visit Rivendell are delighted by the view from the cabin. Over two decades I have never tired of this view and sometimes wondered why. I have decided that the reason the view is so magnificent, and satisfying is the many layers. In the far distance is the top of the escarpment and then closer are the lower mountains with the river winding in between, reflecting the sky or moon & stars, then closer there is a stunning ridge of bright green Kurrajong trees.

Completely off grid excellent wind & solar set up that has just been upgraded with Lithium batteries & new solar panels. It allows me to run an air conditioner to keep the cabin cool on those hot days.

I have a big screen TV with great quality streaming, internet and wi-fi calling. Effectively I have mobile reception within the vicinity of the cabin.

I signed up for the 'small business package' with ACE Internet service provider based in Bowral that has a rural microwave-based network here.

A huge asset of the property is that effectively you have unlimited free water.

Electric pump used to pump rainwater from tank beside cabin up the hill to provide good gravity fed water pressure.

Auto ignition instant gas (new) hot water system more than adequate for two large shower heads inside and outside plus bath.

If rain is insufficient, I top up the tank beside the house by pumping from the river using a twin impeller Honda water pump. A property owner with a river frontage has the right to pump unlimited except must use less than 2-inch pipe and not for commercial purposes.
