INTERESTING FACTS:
Originally called the Commercial Hotel as it was pitched at Commercial Travellers who did business out of 2 dedicated back rooms (now the toilets).
The blue cottage was the first building on the site built in the late 1830's. The shop building was built by William Booth (a tailor), a single storey, glass fronted timber shop on Wallace St. The kitchen building was originally a bakery, single storey and set back from Park Lane. When the pub was built by William booth it was extended to Park Lane and an extra level added. It is noted on a town map as the Mechanic Institute but never was. It was offered as a public space and used initially by the by the Literary Institute.
The first Royal Commission into Police Corruption was held as the result of event that occurred at the Hotel involving the Clarke Bros Bushrangers.
Mick Jagger drank and played the piano at the Hotel during the filming of Ned Kelly in the 1960's.
The Year My Voice Broke starring Noah Taylor and Ben Mendelson was filmed at the Hotel in the 1980's.
It is the only surviving 3 storey corner hotel building of the Georgian era with a cantilever verandah in Australia.
The provision of the ballroom appears to be unique in Australia.
