Vendors Comments Killkenny, 96 River Road, Alfredtown
We have loved Killkenny since we first inspected it in 2005. At that stage it had been rented as the owner had already moved out and the current tenants were also in the process of packing. Even with boxes everywhere the property had a real appeal and all family members agreed it was perfect for us.
Two single parents each with two children, who had in the past few years rediscovered each other. This was the ultimate lifestyle property. The house was more than big enough for each child to have their own space. The two living areas meant that the X-box could be play in one room while the ABC news was being watch in the other. Everyone was happy.
The 66 acres allowed the love of horses to be pursued ... or motor bikes ... or the old paddock basher car to be driven. Endless adventures in the old gold quarry next door, or in the stock reserve across the road. Walks to the ice-cram shop with the dog on those hot summer afternoons. Cattle, sheep, chooks, yabbies in the dams along with delightful views over the creek flats, perfect privacy and peace. We have had it all.
A wedding in the newly landscaped garden. Talk about Backyard Blitz, finishing building the last brick step an hour before the big event. Then the most romantic wedding in the arbour built by the groom as a gift to his bride. A beautiful April day with cocktail food for 100 guests, all without having to leave home. What a brilliant day!
Those Christmas days with 28 family members all seated to enjoy Christmas lunch in the formal lounge and dining room. There was never a worry that the neighbours would be upset as they were so far away from us.
The swimming pool became a focus for summer living ... the birthday pool parties, so easy for parents, but so enjoyable for the birthday child.
The starts at night are simply stunning without the interference of the city lights. The telescope allowing even better views of the moon and stars.
Why Killkenny as the property name? Yes there is an Irish heritage and a love of beer, but Kenny was the naughty dog ... a poodle in fact ... I think you can figure it out.
Now after eight years the children have grown up, horses are not as popular anymore, the motorbikes too small and the paddock basher replaced by much smarter, shinier and registered cards. Like it or not Life Goes On.
So time to move to a smaller property for the parents in the next phase of their lives and allow another family to love Killkenny as much as we have.
PS: We didn't kill Kenny!
