Chumlangi Dreaming...
The Healesville-Toolangi drive is one of the loveliest in the Yarra Valley, winding its way up the hill to where the tall timbers grow... Set amongst this environment, is this unique property; an enclave of buildings and structures spread over approximately 24 hectares of land.
The property has been set aside for conservation and managed chemical free for the more than four decades, the entirety of current ownership. Once part of a much larger property; it surprises with remnants of exotic plantings apparent intertwined in the bush. These represent the historical remains of the Rimmington Nursery, once the largest plant nursery in the Southern Hemisphere post war. A 12 Megalitre water license remains in place along with an in situ bore; That's more water than you could shake a stick at! There are also four homes on the land, three are currently inhabited, while the fourth, architecturally designed and built needs extensive work to make it habitable again.
House One was built in the late 1930s, possibly into the 1940s. Retaining many of its period features, beautiful wooden floorboards, high ceilings and sash windows, there are two dedicated bedrooms, plus a charming loft bedroom accessible via a ladder in the hall. The original lounge with period fireplace is currently used as an office, but could also be utilised as a third large bedroom, or returned to its original lounge room status. A mud brick extension hosts a lovely lounge dining area, open to the kitchen. Pretty gardens surround the home, with an orchard, fenced veggie garden and chook shed.
Home Two is currently tenanted and is a very neat two bed home. Again, quite possibly built at a similar time as to Home One, it has been extended over the years with a lovely kitchen, dining, living space opening on to a large undercover veranda. A spacious bathroom, formal lounge and adjacent sitting room make this home very comfortable. Again, the gardens and infrastructure are lovely.
Further up the track, is Home Three, architecturally designed and quite striking, it was damaged in a fire many years ago and would require some work to return it to its former glory. This building has had no value ascribed to it in the overall value of the property. Juxtaposed is the Home Four- a simple one-bedroom cottage. Again, this has a current tenancy in place. Limited value has been ascribed to this property, please contact Ian to discuss further.
Following the track upwards, leads you to the pinnacle where there is the perfect place to have a camp out and watch the stars. The views here extend across the local hills, across valleys to the Dandenong Ranges. Cleared, fenced land runs from here to the outskirts of the lower homes, approximately 8-10 acres in all.
Home to an abundance of wildlife and birdlife, this long held parcel of land holds the opportunity for the next custodian to take it forward in its journey. A perfect place for inter-generational living on a grand scale, or equally for a group of friends with a love of conservation to take it on as a collective weekend project.
